Loner = Loser?

One thought just occurred to me in a cosmopolitan city like Mumbai, does one actually need OTHERS to survive, to the IT Engineer that comes from a place named Gorakhpur to live the Bombay Dream, (To the Sainiks take note of my pointed use of Bombay over Mumbai) does he need others to survive the ups and downs of a city like Mumbai....

Have you ever done anything by yourself for yourself, and why is there this stigma attached to a single person going out for a meal by themselves, or enjoying a movie by themselves...

Is meeting people the only solution that one can conclude when deciding what is fun and what is not....

I had this one experience to narrate when I decided to attend a movie by myself, I have often found myself to be a typical loner, a hermit of the modern world, aloof....so when I did not get the company to watch a movie of my choice with my friends, I decided to go at it alone, though in all honesty I have never done it again... but look forward to doing it again....

I went for a movie, aptly titled the pursuit of happyness, a beautiful movie, which am sure had a profound impact on many a persons life.

I booked my ticket entered the theater , slightly looking downward from the judgmental eyes that were passing their judgement that this guy is not a loner , but for a letter, changed a loser, attending a movie by myself, I must admit I felt like running out of the theatre in the first 10 mins, after all, how long does it take for a movie to hit DVD....

But a surge of confidence ran through me the moment the movie began....

There were several moments that I contemplated leaving the theater, another one of these fine moments was when I realized that my neighbors to be, were a couple and my mind began racing that I would have to be seated next to a couple, being the 3rd wheel that was not ordered at all.... but again I was resolute and stuck to my gumption ..... so here I am 10 mins in and a couple to the  right of me , now obviously it got awkward, but then I did not know what was in store for me, because a few anxious mins later, the thought that I dreaded the most, occurred another couple came and sat on the left of me... now imagine my plight in... a beautifully sentimental movie , a couple to the right and a couple to the left, and me bang in the center, according to me this memory could not be more memorable....

But I powered through saw the movie and enjoyed it thoroughly especially when the guy was explaining to the girl some basic parts of the movie....which was amusing....

I cannot wait to relive this again, although minus the seating arrangement,

So coming back to my original question and thought, why is it not socially acceptable for a single person to enjoy an activity meant for a group without the eyes that make a loner a loser!

Scams and NEWS

Well, what a weekend it was after Diwali has come and gone, by the way happy Diwali to one and all, of my readers and to all my fellow brother and sisters of my brothers,

After Obama came and conquered every bit of Mumbai for 3 days and while everyone was still captivated by him and his lovely elbow partner, Michelle, no offense,

The first in a series of shockers comes in the form of axes on Mr. Chavan (refrain from using his first name well because I have a point to make further on,  which if you continue reading you will find out yourself) and his partner from the north Mr. Kalmadi, who deservedly so also got chopped down to size. One involved in a shameless usurping of property reserved for the Kargil Widows and allowing such acts to take place during his reign when he was in power as the Finance Minister, and the other who inspite of making India proud during the Commonwealth Games, brought nothing but shame before them. I am sure they could have said that they were mere scapegoats in the entire mix, because my opinion which I stand by is that all the money aint going only into the pockets of these "harshmen" but also finding itself back into the coffers of the ruling party as well. The reason for the title btw is that NEWS as we all know stands for North, East, West and well South, so the west man, is Mr. Chavan, the North stands for Kalmadi the East Stands for Mr. Sen. Who is Mr. Sen , obviously anybody from the East, but to be more precise could be anyone from WB and no that aint Warner Bros, it is West Bengal, and the role of a High Court Judge Mr. Sen where he was found Guilty of Misappropriation  of funds, can you believe it the men supposed to uphold the justice in our country are guilty of such acts.

And then before I inevitably come to end of this never ending saga of Scams and Whams, with the S factor, let me just give you some stats and facts to make it more $$$

The CWG Scam, 70000 Cr.+ Adarsh Scam, a Building full of politicians and a state in shame, + Some few Lakhs + and the big daddy of them all, the telecom 2g scam, I know 3G has come to India now but when 2G was launched the minister incharge of allocating the spectrum a fairly inconspicuous  sounding name such as  A Raja has amassed a scam worth ....drum rolls please, ladies and gentlemen, a whopping Rs. 1,40,000 Crore budget, that is more than our Agriculture overlay and equates to our entire Defence Budget.

And oh Yes before I forget Mr. Chavan is the only way I guess for one to be the Chief Minister of Maharashtra coz yet another Mr. Chavan has taken over the hot seat.

So what do we learn from all this well, nothing unless we use our voices to do something about it and the last the ES have still to be taken to task, we say that our rural households are impoverished well now we know why, four men just four men, have taken away a huge chunk of the common man's hard earned tax money, and what do we do about it , nothing apart from write a blog in obscurity which a few people will read and do nothing about, the indian Saga continues!

Carpe Diem people, Seize the day, Just Some food for thought! ( I think my blogs can do wonder for any insomniac instant therapy for blissful slumber....)

Till de next time,

Goodnight  and God Speed....

From Crash to Fall to Risen!

Today,  I had a  PROC NMAT, and boy oh boy did I create high expectations for myself , My last times score was not something to write home about but I said hey if I can surpass my score by even 20 more I would be more than satisfied with my mediocre performance , but instead I crashed and burned big time, in the words of Fast and Furious analogies of the past!!

Now for most people they would be even happy with just making the passing grade, but after my graduation almost 3 yrs ago, and the realization I have never had many failures during my limited but extremely fulfilling professional life, especially something like this which affects you professionally and personally. I was hit with the hard reality, that my performance was abysmal today and I need to seriously buck up.

It affects anyone especially if they have never had much practice at failing, I mean the occasional setback is something that most individuals are used to, but a crash and fall of this magnitude is truly earth shattering and it affects someone at various levels which are difficult to pen down.

I guess now what matters the most,  is how do I come back from this FAILURE. The fighting spirit to come back from a lose and shaky ground and work towards building back the pieces, It is a painstaking but worthy in its cause, if all the efforts bear fruit at the end of the day, I guess the only worse thing today is a fall in the marks, which can be made up, money can be made up but time can never be brought back, so the learning from todays small but meaningful post is that in the eye of the storm its better to face your fear no matter what it may be and hard work and perseverance is what makes the difference, so remember, the future of tomorrow, is what we do today! I have lived by that last line since the past so many years, time to relive it again as I pass another era of my life,

Again God Speed and Goonight

The youth of today, the future of tomorrow?

Well, currently I am in a batch of students who are prepping themselves to be the future leaders of tomorrow, the leaders who will make our businesses thrive and reach new heights, my mind doesn't allow me to think they can achieve that, not that I have any sadistic pleasure out of deriding them in any form, its just that I find that our education system is creating individuals who are taking life for granted, may be I might be wrong, I guess only time will tell. The seriousness of these individuals is absolutely appalling at times, their state of information of current affairs is lacklustre at best and it doesnt allow them to free their minds at all to the world around, them it is true that we are creating world leaders but just like in cocoon their lives are shielded by their parents and the society in general which does not allow them to appreciate the wornders of the world around them.

Today might just have been a bad day, and my views might are slightly skewed today for many reasons, which generally relates to my mood,

The causes for inspiration of the youth of today is a study I would love to one day conduct my thesis on when I do plan to do my PHD. At the novice age of 23, if such thoughts can seep into my brain, I guess my parents must have done something right about my upbringing.

Now to direct myself back to the topic at hand, the seriousness required by the youth of today needs to be drilled into their minds at a young age, and that can be changed provided we make the changes required at a young age.

The inspiration to this post, is that I today I watched the movie, Dead Poets Society Today, where Mr. Keating played by Robin Williams, a distant cousin of his normal roles, but who I must applaud for his 2 great performances, this one,  and the other in Patch Adams, inspires a spirited group of youngsters from wellton school into free thinking, through the simplest of subjects and perhaps the most beautiful poetry, to be free thinkers and do what they love to do!

He thought them to do what they want to do in life, and go after it with unyielding passion and devotion, as a cheetah chases his prey and not like a lion!

Another inspiration is the book that I am currently reading is the book by Rashmi Bansal, titled aptly with the previous anecdote, stay hungry stay foolish!

I know my posts tend to go a bit off track at times, but finally in summary, if the youth of today do not mend their ways soon, and trust me I am 23, so its not like this ain't coming from the horses mouth,  its just that I feel with some free thinking thought, the world can be the oyster for each individual and we all can reap our pearls in due time with persistence!

God Speed and Goodnight!

End of the Sabbatical Era!

Dear Friends,

On September 01st I proceeded on a sabbatical to pursue my MBA and let me tell you it has been a wonderful vacation, but now I need to wake up from my slumber and awaken the giant within up to get up from my slumber into action, because that is what it is going to take for me to bell the CAT, there are so many areas that need to be covered and everyday, and yet I am not yet on the required bus.

To the IIM's of the world, I guess here I come, let me just tell you some tales of my travails in the past few weeks, and I am sure you would have gone through the same during your journey, First error, I joined classes and boy did I feel great, back to the classroom, and back to the books, what I did realize and rather too late is that I need loads of practice to gain the required aptitude and speed to make it anywhere, there are some whizkids in the classes I go to and yet I realize in comparison to them although I am not that old I feel like a grandfather, in comparison to their calculations, after missing the initial introduction lecture, I though well I couldnt have missed much, but infact its just like reading a book, if you miss the beginning you don't know what the end has in store for you, and yes such is life, if you choose to miss the beginning by being completely aloof, you will never know how it is to truly love the end.

So first moral of my sabbatical was to practice, and not preach as most of us HR professionals tend to do.

Well I guess I am going to practice what I just preached and hit the books. Good night for now, this is captain's log on 09th October, Live Strong and Prosper!

In HR do you have to be a people person?

You know what i love my job, i can proudly say that i am a true HR professional, but one aspect of an HR professional and probably the most important is the attribute or trait of being a 'people person', isnt it what most freshers say when they want to get into the footholds of the HR profession..i am a people person...and i love interacting with people.

if that were the case even a marketing person could become a HR professional coz well hey its not like he was even dealing with monkeys or primates,..he after all is dealing with people....

so my question to my few but limited followers, is do you need to be a people person?
cant wait for the answers...
